Ubuntu 11.10 - The Original

I thought I'd try the non-kde version of Ubuntu - aka the original - and I installed it on my laptop.

Install went extremely well and after a couple of hours I think I'm used to the desktop - at least familiar enough with it that it's not making me feel like a stranger anymore. It seems like it is a good time to change over as this version doesn't have the bugs that have been introduced into KDE over the last few iterations. It also has a great software center, and my favorite of all Ubuntu One.

I've gone ahead and attempted to install on my desktop - although I'm having more issues with that install.

It seems I need to pay more attention to the news that comes through twitter - Ubuntu One - like iCloud and other cloudy type stuff, gives Ubuntu users 5GB of space "in the cloud" for FREE! This space is available to all of your computers (including those running windows) and any of your Android devices as well. The integration in the Ubuntu desktop is great - even built in to the backup tool (which will backup your system to the cloud in encrypted format).

As with all cloud systems, it shouldn't be your primary copy of your documents, but it makes for a great way to backup your systems and to ensure that your files are accessible.
